Betting Increments in Limit Texas Holdem

There are three structures of betting in Texas holdem and these are no-limit, pot-limit and limit games. No-limit holdem is obviously the easiest type of betting arrangement because aside from the blinds, it's a virtual free-for-all in wagers. Pot-limit, on the other hand, enforces that bets can't go over the size of the pot. Now, limit Texas holdem gets its name because of restrictions on all wagers or bets in the game. So what are these betting increments in limit Texas holdem?

First, we'll familiarize ourselves with rounds of betting in holdem. There are four cycles in a complete game and these are after dealing pocket cards, after showing the first three communal cards (flop), after revealing the fourth board card (turn) and after revealing the fifth or last board card (river). Each consecutive betting round is over when remaining players (those who haven't folded) have put the same amount in the pot.

Now, we'll deal with what's called table stakes that are normally agreed upon before a game begins and it includes two monetary values. So an example of that would $2/$4 or $3/$6 and so on.

The two values in table stakes are the increment or accretion in limit Texas holdem. Using $2/$4 for instance, the first value (or $2) is the small blind as well as the raise allowed before the flop and after it. The second value (or $4) is the big blind and the raise allowed at the turn and river.

What's more, limit holdem doesn't just have restrictions on bet amounts. It also imposes a limit on the number of raises per round of betting. That is, there can only be a maximum of three raises in each of these four rounds or cycles.

Seeing all these restrictions and caps in limit holdem, obviously, makes it possible for players to know exactly how much they can win or lose. So, it's correct to say that at pre-flop, the pot will not go below $6 at a $2/$4 four-player table and it also won't go over $36 too.

The maximum of $36 at pre-flop is calculated by taking all four players' big blinds ($4 multiplied by four = $16) and adding the maximum raises allowed ($2 raise at pre-flop at a max of three times, multiplied by four players = $24). Hence, the limit is that that pot won't go over $36 before the communal cards are shown at a $2/$4, four-player limit Texas holdem table.

Betting increments in limit Texas holdem are indicated in table stakes. The first value in the two-value stake represents the small blind as well as the raise allowed at pre-flop and after the flop. The second value, conversely, denotes the big blind and raise value at the turn and river. What's more, the cap or restriction on the number of raises per round is just three times in limit holdem poker.
